The UK government should offer safety for Afghan refugees fleeing the Taliban by:

scrapping its anti-refugee Borders and Nationality Bill
suspending removals of Afghan asylum seekers
extending family reunion rights so people aren’t torn apart from their loved ones
providing refugee protection to Afghan nationals currently in the UK asylum system
allowing communities to resettle refugees through an expanded and comprehensive resettlement scheme

As my MP, I ask that you urge the UK Government to offer immediate and comprehensive safety to Afghan refugees.

Like many others, we have watched in horror as the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan and thousands of ordinary people fled their homes.

Those at risk of being murdered by the Taliban include former military interpreters and others who supported the British forces, humanitarian workers, journalists and female leaders, as well as young men who resist conscription.

While many people remain trapped inside the country, we know that some have managed to escape but now face a life of displacement and fear without anywhere to go.

The UK government’s commitment to resettle up to 20,000 Afghan refugees is welcome. But we now need to see full details of how this scheme will provide immediate help to those fleeing the crisis in Afghanistan.
 
This government should support Afghan refugees fleeing the Taliban by:

1. scrapping its anti-refugee Borders and Nationality Bill
